Get Real: New American Painting Frank Oriti, I’d Rather Sink, Oil and Acrylic on Canvas, 2013 In the fall semester of 2014, students in the Art History Junior Seminar at the University of North Florida collaborated with the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville on research to supplement a current exhibition, Get Real: New American Painting (September 2014-January 2015). The exhibition, revolving around recent works by a group of prominent emerging artists provided the starting point for UNF students’ original research on artworks featured in the exhibition. The students each carried out research on one work, exploring its individual meaning and significance and broader implications for our understanding of current directions in realist painting in America. This research culminated in the student-authored essays featured on this site, which contribute to an expanded visual and interpretive context for the Get Real exhibition: Click here to explore UNF Art History students’ research.
